Year-to-date the Dow is up +0.79%.

The Dow stock winners Friday were led by Salesforce (CRM) 207.36 (+2.65%), Disney (DIS) 82.94 (+2.64%) and Honeywell (HON) 184.66 (+2.58%).

The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Walmart (WMT) 156.41 (-1.68%), Walgreens (WBA) 21.81 (-1.67%) and McDonald’s (MCD) 248.22 (-1.59%).

The VIX closed Friday at 17.45 (-5.62%) and the 10 YR at 4.726 (-1.11%). The VIX is currently at 18.92 (+8.42%). The 10YR is at 4.702 (-1.61%).

Stock futures are down Monday as the deadly Israel-Hamas conflict pressured an already fragile market dealing with inflation and surging interest rates.

A hotter-than-expected jobs report from Friday showed hiring remains robust, with the economy adding 336,000 jobs last month. Wages, meanwhile, grew at a largely muted clip, which gave investors hope inflation was cooling.

Bond yields eased somewhat as stocks climbed Friday, but the 10-year Treasury yield reached a 16-year high earlier in the week. With the bond market closed on Monday for Columbus Day, Wall Street will have to wait until Tuesday for an update on interest rates.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down five-tenths of a cent at $3.704 per gallon.
