The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Disney (DIS) 81.25 (-1.79%), Walgreens (WBA) 21.12 (-1.54%) and Dow (DOW) 50.25 (-1.47%).

The VIX closed Friday at 17.20 (-1.94%) and the 10 YR at 4.437 (-0.85%). The VIX is currently at 18.33 (-6.57%). The 10YR is at 4.519 (-1.87%).

Stocks have struggled this month as the Federal Reserve signaled higher interest rates for longer, causing the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield to surge.

Lawmakers over the weekend expressed few signs of movement on a deal that would keep the U.S. government funded for the remainder of the fiscal year. GOP hard-liners refuse to budge on further spending cuts. Current spending laws are due to expire on Sept. 30. That means if Congress does not reach an agreement before 12:01 a.m. on Oct. 1, the government will shut down. House Republicans on Thursday sent the chamber into recess, delaying further developments in the negotiations.

Shares of Disney (DIS) were higher in the premarket after Hollywood writers and studios reached a tentative deal that would end the Writers Guild of America’s strike.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up two-tenths of a cent at $3.849 per gallon.
