The Dow stock winners Thursday were UnitedHealth (UNH) 501.14 (+1.83%) and Disney (DIS) 82.73 (+0.21%).

The Dow stock losers Thursday were led by Cisco (CSCO) 53.34 (-3.89%), Dow (DOW) 51.00 (-2.78%), Nike (NKE) 91.59 (-2.61%) and Caterpillar (CAT) 272.03 (-2.36%).

The VIX closed Thursday at 17.54 (+15.85%) and the 10 YR at 4.489 (+0.31%). The VIX is currently at 16.87 (-3.82%). The 10YR is at 4.464 (-0.25%).

Bond yields surged after the central bank forecast one more rate hike for 2023. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield popped 15 basis point to hit a high of 4.498%, its highest level since 2007. Meanwhile, the 2-year rate topped 5.2%, touching its highest level since 2006.

West Texas Intermediate crude (WTI) gained 1.4%, or $1.23, at $90.92, trading back above the $90 threshold. Brent crude rose 1% to $94.26.

The Dow has slipped 1.6% so far this week. If that holds, it would mark the worst weekly performance since mid-August.

Bullish sentiment toward the six-month outlook for stocks dropped to a 16-week low of 31.3% from 34.4% previously in the latest weekly survey from the American Association of Individual Investors. Optimism has stood below the historical average of 37.5% for five of the past six weeks.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down eight-tenths of a cent at $3.859 per gallon.
