DJIA Market Happenings For Monday, September 11 2023 – Merck (MRK) 109.05 Down -1.71% YTD

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to be up +92 points.

Friday the Dow closed up +75.86 (+0.22%) at 34,576.59.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +4.31%.

Friday, (18) Dow stocks were up, none were at 52-week lows and (2) were at 52-week highs.

The Dow stock winners Friday were led by Amgen (AMGN) 259.43 (+1.98%), Microsoft (MSFT) 334.27 (+1.32%).

The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Boeing (BA) 211.27 (-2.21%), Verizon (VZ) 33.45 (-1.06%) and Dow (DOW) 53.71 (-0.72%).

The VIX closed Friday at 13.84 (-3.89%) and the 10 YR at 4.272 (+0.42%). The VIX is currently at 14.14 (+2.17%). The 10YR is at 4.278 (+0.56%).

Apple (AAPL) will unveil the iPhone 15 and other products on Tuesday, with their stock skidding -6% this past week on China iPhone fears.

Wednesday and Thursday we get the latest consumer price index and producer price index readings, respectively. Investors are hoping for low readings, although both are expected to jump due to energy cost pressures.

Retail sales data also arrives Thursday and the University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Survey will be released on Friday, which should give insight on how well spending could hold up for the rest of the year.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up five-tenths of a cent at $3.832 per gallon.
