Salesforce (CRM) shares advanced more than 5% in premarket trading after the software company announced fiscal second-quarter results and third-quarter guidance Wednesday that exceeded analysts’ expectations. Salesforce posted quarterly adjusted earnings of $2.12 per share, greater than the $1.90 per share forecasted by analysts. It posted revenue of $8.60 billion, more than the expected $8.53 billion. Its third-quarter outlook was also robust.

Personal consumption expenditures index increased 0.2% month-over-month in August and 4.2% year-over-year, matching estimates from economists. The personal consumption expenditures data is an inflation gauge closely watched by the Fed. Economists also forecast a year-over-year rise of 4.2% last month, up slightly from a 4.1% increase the previous month.

Friday we get non-farm payroll data. Economists expect 170,000 additions.

Weekly jobless claims come in below estimate. Initial filings for unemployment benefits totaled a seasonally adjusted 228,000 for the week ended Aug. 26, a decrease of 4,000 from the previous week’s revised level, the Labor Department reported Thursday. The total was lower than estimates for 235,000.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down two-tenths of a cent at $3.825 per gallon.
