The VIX closed Wednesday at 15.98 (-5.83%) and the 10 YR at 4.201 (-+0.07%). The VIX is currently at 15.64 (-2.13%). The 10YR is at 4.226 (+0.67%).

Demand for big-ticket items such as appliances, computers and transportation equipment fell more than expected in July, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. Durable good orders slid 5.2% for the month, worse than the 4.1% estimate from Dow Jones, according to a preliminary reading. Most of the decline was due to a slump in transportation. Excluding the category, orders actually increased 0.5%.

Boeing (BA) hares lost about 2% before the bell after revealing a new manufacturing defect involving supplier Spirit AeroSystems that will delay 737 Max deliveries.

Kenvnue, the Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) spin-off behind brands such as Tylenol, may be worth buying while cheap, Goldman Sachs said. Goldman upgraded the stock to buy from neutral on Wednesday.

U.S. futures are mixed, European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down eight-tenths of a cent at $3.837 per gallon.
