The VIX closed Tuesday at 16.46 (+11.07%) and the 10 YR at 4.199 (-0.38%). The VIX is currently at 16.60 (+0.85%). The 10YR is at 4.208 (-0.17%).

Today we get the minutes from the Federal Reserve’s July meeting at 2 pm ET.

Financial stock JPMorgan (JPM) slid after Fitch warned it may be forced to downgrade the credit ratings of dozens of banks. This comes following Moody’s decision last week to downgrade the ratings of 10 banks while putting other institutions on a watchlist.

Housing starts rose 3.9% month-over-month to 1.45 million in July, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. This came above the consensus estimate of 1.44 million for new residential construction. Building permits rose 0.1% from the prior month to 1.44 million in July. Economists had anticipated 1.45 million. The posted figure marked a 13% year-over-year decline.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up 1.1 cents at $3.873 per gallon.
