The VIX closed Wednesday at 16.09 (+15.51%) and the 10 YR at 4.064 (+0.20%). The VIX is currently at 16.84 (+4.66%). The 10YR is at 4.155 (+2.44%).

Weekly jobless claims totaled 227,000, up 6,000 from the week before but exactly in line with expectations.

Nonfarm productivity jumped 3.7% for the April-through-June period, as output rose 2.4% and hours worked fell 1.3%. Unit labor costs, a measure of hourly compensation against productivity, increased 1.6% as compensation costs increased 5.5% but were offset by the 3.7% rise in productivity. Economists had been looking for respective readings of 2.3% and 2.5%. Productivity had fallen 1.2% in the first quarter while unit labor costs rose 3.3%.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up 1.8 cents at $3.821 per gallon.
