The Dow stock losers Monday were led by Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) 167.53 (-3.98%), Intel (INTC) 35.77 (-2.88%) and Amgen (AMGN) 234.15 (-0.94%).

The VIX closed Monday at 13.63 (+2.25%) and the 10 YR at 3.940 (+0.10%). The VIX is currently at 14.16 (+3.89%). The 10YR is at 3.992 (+1.42%).

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended July up about 3.4%.

Merck (MRK) reported a smaller-than-expected loss and revenue that exceeded expectations thanks to strong Keytruda sales. Merck shares rose 1%. The company’s numbers reflect a $10.2 billion charge related to its acquisition of Prometheus, a company that specializes in autoimmune disease treatments.

Caterpillar (CAT) also reported better-than-expected earnings and revenue, boosting shares 2%. The company reported adjusted earnings of $5.55 per share on $17.32 billion in revenue. That surpassed the EPS of $4.58 and revenues of $16.49 expected by Wall Street analysts.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mixed.

The national average price of gasoline is up 2.3 cents at $3.780 per gallon.
