The Dow Jones Industrial Average snapped its winning streak on Thursday after a 13-day run, falling 0.7% on the session. It was the longest win streak for the index since 1987.

The U.S. economy continues to defy recession fears. Gross domestic product grew at an annualized rate of 2.4% during the second quarter, according to the latest readout from the Commerce Department, stronger growth than the first quarter and above the 2% rate that economists were expecting.

June data for the personal consumption expenditures price index continued to show easing inflation. The gauge showed PCE gained 0.2% month-over-month, in line with the 0.2% increase expected by economists. Core PCE rose 4.1% from the year-ago period, lower than the anticipated 4.2%.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up 1.8 cents at $3.732 per gallon.
