The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Merck (mrk) 109.00 (-2.46%), Walmart (WMT) 153.49 (-2.30%) and Procter & Gamble (PG) 148.80 (-2.10%).

The VIX closed Friday at 14.83 (-3.95%) and the 10 YR at 4.064 (+0.72%). The VIX is currently at 15.44 (+4.11%). The 10YR is at 4.051 (+0.25%).

This week we get the consumer price index on Wednesday and produce price index on Thursday. Earnings are also starting this week with JPMorgan (JPM) and UnitedHealth (UNH) on Thursday. See earnings section below.

With Wednesday’s Consumer Price Index inflation data, economists are expecting 0.3% monthly increases in both the overall and core CPI, which strips out food and energy prices. The core CPI inflation rate could fall from May’s 5.3% to 5% or possibly lower as the hefty 0.6% monthly rise in June 2022 falls out of the 12-month calculation.

U.S. futures are mostly lower, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up five-tenths of a cent at $3.543 per gallon.
