The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -78 points.

Friday the Dow closed down -108.94 (-0.32%) at 34,299.12.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +3.48%.

Friday, (15) Dow stocks were up, none were at 52-week lows and (2) were at 52-week highs.

The Dow stock winners Friday were led by Walgreens (WBA) 32.67 (+2.03%), Intel (INTC) 36.37 (+1.54%) and Visa (V) 228.91 (+1.21%).

The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Disney (DIS) 91.32 (-1.74%), Microsoft (MSFT) 342.33 (-1.66%) and UnitedHealth (UNH) 458.49 (-1.59%).

The VIX closed Friday at 13.54 (-6.63%) and the 10 YR at 3.713 (-2.11%). The VIX is currently at 14.30 (+5.61%). The 10YR is at 3.752 (-0.29%).

Markets were closed Monday for the Juneteenth Holiday.

U.S. housing starts topped estimates in May. There were 1.63 million starts last month, which was higher than the 1.39 million housing starts expected by economists.

New York Fed President John Williams will appear with Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michael Barr at a corporate governance event in New York City on Tuesday. Fed Chair Powell is set to testify in front of Congress on Wednesday and Thursday.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down one-tenth of a cent at $3.577 per gallon.
