The VIX closed Thursday at 22.61(+1.57%). The VIX is currently at 24.07(+6.46%). The 10YR is at 3.292.

We have a new upheaval in the global banking system. Shares of Deutsche Bank, which experienced a sharp rise in credit default swaps, weighed on European markets. U.S. futures showed the same strain Friday morning. Elsewhere, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen played a little cleanup Thursday after she said the government wasn’t considering a universal backstop of all U.S. deposits the day before. “The strong actions we have taken ensure that Americans’ deposits are safe. Certainly, we would be prepared to take additional actions if warranted,” she told lawmakers Thursday.

Investor pessimism in the latest weekly survey from the American Association of Individual Investors edged closer to 50%, rising to 48.9% of those polled from 48.4% last week. Bullish opinion improved to 20.9% from 19.2%, while neutral sentiment narrowed to 30.2% from 32.4%.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up three-tenths of a cent at $3.441 per gallon.

Nike (NKE) reported earnings on 3/21/23 after the market close with $0.79, beating estimates of $0.519 per share.

Walgreens (WBA) reports earnings on 3/28/23 before the market open.
