The Dow stock losers Wednesday were led by Apple (AAPL) 126.04 (-3.07%), Disney (DIS) 84.17 (-2.55%), Dow (DOW) 49.99 (-2.34%), Nike (NKE) 114.98 (-2.19%) and Walgreens (WBA) 37.358 (-1.91%).

The 10 YR yield closed Wednesday at 3.866 (-0.23%) and the VIX at 22.14 (+2.26%). The 10 YR is currently at 3.830 and VIX is at 21.68 (+0.14%).

Only two trading days left in 2022 with futures up this morning. Stock futures pushed higher after the Labor Department Thursday reported an increase in jobless claims from last week, amid Federal Reserve efforts to cool the economy and in particular the labor market.

First-time filings for unemployment benefits totaled 225,000 for the week ended Dec. 24, according to the report. That was an increase of 9,000 from the previous week and slightly above a 223,000 estimate. Longer-term, continuing claims, which run a week behind the headline number, jumped to 1.71 million, an increase of 41,000 to the highest level since early February.

Apple (AAPL) is up 1% in premarket trading after closing Wednesday at a 1-1/2 year low. Apple is down 29% for 2022.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up 2.6 cents at $3.159 per gallon.

Walgreens (WBA) will report earnings on 1/5/22 before the market open.

Goldman Sachs (GS) will report earnings on 1/17/22 before the market open.
