Year-to-date the Dow is down -5.48%.

Friday, (20) of the Dow 30 stocks were up, none were at 52-week lows and (2) were at 52-week highs.

The Dow stock winners Friday were led by Boeing (BA) 178.36 (+2.01%), Home Depot (HD) 326.38 (+1.51%) and UnitedHealth (UNH) 537.62 (+1.49%).

The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Apple (AAPL) 148.11 (-1.96%), Intel (INTC) 29.34 (-1.11%) and Nike (NKE) 105.96 (-0.65%).

The 10 YR yield closed Friday at 3.709 and the VIX at 20.50 (+0.74%). The 10 YR is currently at 3.686 and VIX is at 22.17 (+8.15%).

The Dow rose 1.78% last week, shortened by the Thanksgiving holiday.

Markets face a new test this week after protests broke out across China (more on this below). The unrest, driven by rage over the Chinese government’s draconian Covid controls, sapped Asian stocks and appeared to weigh on early sentiment before U.S. markets opened.

Bargain-hungry Americans opened their wallets over the Thanksgiving holiday, as crowds returned to stores and people shopped from their phones and computers while they watched football, dined on turkey and ignored annoying relatives. According to Adobe, online retailers set a record for sales on Black Friday, netting more than $9 billion. Cyber Monday is expected to be even bigger.

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” pulled off another superheroic performance at the box office over the weekend, giving Disney (DIS) a Thanksgiving holiday win. However, the studio’s big animated offering for the season, “Strange World,” tanked miserably. The movie, a retro sci-fi adventure with some 21st-century twists, put up the worst three-day opening weekend for a Disney animated film since 2000?s “The Emperor’s New Groove,” a movie that was notoriously racked with production problems.

Apple (AAPL) slid 1.7% in premarket trading on reports of a production shortfall of close to 6 million iPhone Pro models due to Covid-related unrest at contract manufacturer Foxconn’s China factory. A person familiar with assembly operations said that Apple and Foxconn do expect to be able to make up that shortfall in 2023.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down nine-tenths of a cent at $3.546 per gallon.
