Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -336 points.

Wednesday the Dow closed up +56.22 (+0.17%) at 33,592.92.

Year-to-date the Dow is down -7.56%.

The Dow stock winners Wednesday were led by McDonald’s (MCD) 272.51 (+1.74%), UnitedHealth (UNH) 511.52 (+1.69%) and Home Depot (HD) 314.91 (+0.96%).

The Dow stock losers Wednesday were led by Salesforce (CRM) 155.12 (-4.29%), Intel (INTC) 29.53 (-3.84%) and Dow (DOW) 50.51 (-2.11%).

The 10 YR yield closed Wednesday at 3.703 and the VIX at 24.11 (-1.75%). The 10 YR is currently at 3.782 and VIX is at 24.97 (+3.57%).

Stock futures fell Thursday as interest rates jumped with Federal Reserve officials signaling interest rate hikes to slow inflation are far from over. St. Louis Federal Reserve President James Bullard said in a speech Thursday that “the policy rate is not yet in a zone that may be considered sufficiently restrictive.”

The 2-year Treasury Yield jumped to 4.42% Thursday morning, raising fears higher rates would send the economy into a recession.

The four-week moving average for initial jobless claims hit its highest level since Sept. 10. Meanwhile, continuing claims reached its highest point since March. Initial jobless claims was 222,000 for the week ending Nov. 12, a drop of 4,000 from the prior week’s adjusted 226,000 claims. Continuing jobless claims reached 1.507 million for the week of Nov. 5, up from the prior week’s revised 1.494 million claims. It’s the highest level since Mar. 26 when continuing claims were 1.529 million.

Housing starts slid in October, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Housing starts in October dipped 4.2% from the prior month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.425 million. Still, that came in better than the 1.41 million units expected, according to Dow Jones consensus estimates. Meanwhile, housing permits dipped 2.4% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,526,000 in October. It was better than 1.5 million units expected, according to the Dow Jones.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down 1.8 cents at $3.725 per gallon.
