The Dow stock losers Wednesday were led by Goldman Sachs (GS) 309.00 (-1.86%), JPMorgan (JPM) 110.39 (-1.23%) and Dow (DOW) 46.06 (-1.20%).

The 10 YR yield closed Wednesday at 3.751% and the VIX at 28.55 (-1.79%). The 10 YR is currently at 3.780 and VIX is at 28.98 (+1.51%).

Private businesses added 208,000 jobs last month, according to ADP, topping estimates. The government, meanwhile, will report monthly jobs data Friday. A hot job market will likely fuel the Fed’s rationale to hike rates further.

The oil-producing nations of OPEC+ on Wednesday agreed to the group’s largest supply cut since 2020, aiming to limit supplies as prices have fallen while concerns about a decline in worldwide demand have grown. The decision came at a moment fraught with political tension. The United States is in the midst of a tight election campaign that will decide the balance of power in Congress. The move drew anger from President Joe Biden’s administration and could result in some major blowback for key OPEC nation Saudi Arabia, which also counts itself as an ally of the U.S.

The Labor Department’s first-time unemployment claims came out at 8:30 a.m. ET. Initial claims rose to 219,000, above estimates that called for a rise to 203,000 from 193,000 in the previous week.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up 3.6 cents at $3.867 per gallon.
