Salesforce (CRM) slid 6.3% in premarket trading after the business software giant cut its full year guidance, as economic uncertainty slows the pace of customer deals. Salesforce posted better than expected sales and profit for its most recent quarter. Salesforce also approved a $10 billion share buyback program. It is also raising prices for Slack, the team messaging app it acquired last year for $28 billion as it became clear that hybrid work arrangements were going to stick around.

Apple (AAPL) on Wednesday sent out cosmic-themed invitations to a big event Sept. 7, when it is expected to unveil the latest iPhones. Investors and consumers alike will be looking for whether Apple will jack up its already premium-level prices given supply chain issues and inflation. Apple could also unveil a new Apple Watch at the event. I’m hoping for a new Mac Mini.

Unemployment insurance weekly claims in the week ending August 20, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 243,000, a decrease of 2,000 from the previous week’s revised level. The previous week’s level was revised down by 5,000 from 250,000 to 245,000. The 4-week moving average was 247,000, an increase of 1,500 from the previous week’s revised average. The previous week’s average was revised down by 1,250 from 246,750 to 245,500. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.0 percent for the week ending August 13, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending August 13 was 1,415,000, a decrease of 19,000 from the previous week’s revised level. The previous week’s level was revised down by 3,000 from 1,437,000 to 1,434,000. The 4-week moving average was 1,424,750, an increase of 12,500 from the previous week’s revised average. The previous week’s average was revised down by 750 from 1,413,000 to 1,412,250. The total number of continued weeks claimed for benefits in all programs for the week ending August 6 was 1,448,533, a decrease of 32,948 from the previous week. There were 12,007,688 weekly claims filed for benefits in all programs in the comparable week in 2021.

U.S. futures are higher, European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down five-tenths of a cent at $3.878 per gallon.
