The Dow stock winners Tuesday were led by Walmart (WMT) 139.37 (+5.11%), Home Depot (HD) 327.38 (+4.06%) and Walgreens (WBA) 42.04 (+2.36%).

The Dow stock losers Tuesday were led by 3M (MMM) 150.26 (-0.77%), Salesforce (CRM) 189.59 (-0.77%) and Intel (INTC) 36.19 (-0.41%).

The 10 YR yield is currently at 2.886% and the VIX is at 20.50 (+4.11%).

The Federal Reserve releases its minutes today from the last FOMC meeting.

U.S. housing starts fell -9.6% in July missing expectations. Earlier this week, the National Association of Home Builders declared a “housing recession” after builder confidence sank for the eighth consecutive month.

The Mortgage Bankers Association said Wednesday that demand for mortgages last week hit the lowest level since 2000. Fewer people are refinancing their mortgages, too, as rates are nearly double where they were early this year. The report Wednesday comes on the heels of new surveys showing that more people are backing out of deals to buy homes.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down six-tenths of a cent at $3.943 per gallon.
