The Dow stock winners Friday were led by Disney (DIS) 121.57 (+3.30%), Merck (MRK) 91.02 (+2.35%), Apple (AAPL) 172.10 (+2.14%), UnitedHealth (UNH) 543.70 (+2.03%) and Walmart (WMT) 132.22 (+1.85%).

The lone Dow stock loser Friday was Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) 165.30 (-1.10%).

The 10 YR yield is currently at 2.851% and the VIX is at 19.5. (-3.32%).

On Tuesday, Walmart (WMT), which made waves by slashing its forecast and cutting corporate jobs earlier this summer, will give investors a look at just how much inflation and overstocked inventories are cutting into margins. Home Depot (HD) also reports earnings Tuesday.

Several soft economic data points from China weighed on stocks Monday morning. The government reported industrial production and retail sales growth that fell below analysts’ expectations. Investment in manufacturing slowed down, while a decline in real estate investment accelerated. The Chinese economy has struggled to shrug off the impact of strict Covid restrictions, while its real estate sector is suffering from reduced cash flow as many homebuyers have stopped making mortgage payments to protest homebuilding delays.

Crude oil prices have slipped following the weak China data, a sign that gas prices are going to come down even more.

U.S. futures are lower, European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down three-tenths of a cent at $3.956 per gallon.
