DJIA Market Happenings For Monday, March 7, 2022 – Microsoft (MSFT) 289.86 Down -13.81% YTD

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -62 points.

Friday the Dow closed down -179.86 (-0.53%) at 33,614.80.

Year-to-date the Dow is down -7.49%.

There were 14 Dow stocks up Friday.

The Dow stock winners Friday were led by Walmart (WMT) 142.82 (+2.53%), UnitedHealth (UNH) 498.65 (+2.48%) and Walgreens (WBA) 47.72 (+2.14%).

The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Boeing (BA) 180.84 (-4.24%), American Express (AXP) 172.95 (-3.86%) and Visa (V) 200.29 (-3.35%).

The 10-year Treasury yield is currently at 1.806%.

U.S. oil prices backed off Sunday night’s nearly 14-year highs, trading Monday at a still-elevated level of roughly $118 per barrel. Traders are driving up crude on concerns about supply disruptions stemming from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, now well into its second week. The U.S. average for a gallon of gasoline topped $4 on Sunday, according to AAA, the highest since July 2008, not adjusted for inflation.

A third round of talks between Russia and Ukraine to end fighting is set for Monday as a higher-level meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has been agreed upon for Thursday in Antalya, Turkey, according to Turkey’s foreign minister.

U.S. futures are mostly lower, European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up 5.6 cents at $4.065 per gallon.
