The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Chevron (CVX) 103.03 (-3.77%), Walgreens (WBA) 50.84 (-3.73%), Goldman Sachs (GS) 348.83 (-3.50%), Travelers (TRV) 144.76 (-2.76%), Intel (INTC) 55.67 (-2.64%) and JPMorgan (JPM) 147.92 (-2.53%).
The Fed last Wednesday increased its inflation forecast and indicated two rate hikes in 2023. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said central bankers were considering tapering their massive Covid-era bond purchases. Fed speakers will get a lot of attention this week, including Tuesday’s congressional testimony from Powell. The 10-year Treasury yield continued to back away from last week’s Fed-driven spike, trading early Monday just above 1.4%. It briefly dipped to 1.354%, the lowest level since late February. Today we are getting a market bounce from last weeks sell off.
US futures are higher, European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly lower.
The national average price of gasoline is up one-tenth of a cent at $3.071 per gallon.
