DJIA Market Happenings For Wednesday, August 19, 2020

Dow stocks hitting 52 week highs include Home Depot (HD), Procter & Gamble (PG) and Walmart (WMT). There are no Dow stock 52 week lows.

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +34 points.

Tuesday the Dow was down -66.84 (-0.24%) at 27,778.07.

Year-to-date the Dow is down -2.53%.

There were 11 Dow stocks up Tuesday.

The Dow stock winners Tuesday were led by Nike (NKE) 106.97 (+1.24%), Apple (AAPL) 462.25 (+0.83%) and McDonald’s (MCD) 210.32 (+0.79%).

The Dow stock losers Tuesday were led by Chevron (CVX) 87.63 (-2.07%), JPMorgan (JPM) 98.32 (-1.39%) and UnitedHealth (UNH) 316.81 (-1.15%).

Today is the third day of the virtual Democratic National Convention and features Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama as well as Sen. Kamala Harris accepting the VP nomination. Former presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also speak. On Tuesday night, former President Bill Clinton and Jill Biden argued for electing Joe Biden instead President Donald Trump. The party also formally nominated Biden for president.

European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up two-tenths of a cent at $2.178 per gallon.
