The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -648 points.

Wednesday the Dow was up +1173.45 (+4.53%) at 27,090.86.

Year-to-date the Dow is down -5.07%.

There were 30 Dow stocks up Wednesday. That’s all of them by the way.

The Dow stock winners Wednesday were led by UnitedHealth (UNH) +10.72%, American Express (AXP) +7.12%, Pfizer (PFE) +6.12%, 3M (MMM) +6.02%, Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) +5.82%, Home Depot (HD) +5.76%, Walgreens (WBA) +5.57%, Procter & Gamble (PG) +5.36% and Coca Cola (KO) +5.10%. That makes 9 Dow stocks that gained more than 5% on Wednesday.

The Dow stock losers Wednesday were not to be found. However Boeing (BA) gained the least, up +0.89% on the day.

Unemployment insurance weekly claims in the week ending February 29, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 216,000, a decrease of 3,000 from the previous week’s unrevised level of 219,000. The 4-week moving average was 213,000, an increase of 3,250 from the previous week’s unrevised average of 209,750. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2 percent for the week ending February 22, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending February 22 was 1,729,000, an increase of 7,000 from the previous week’s revised level. The previous week’s level was revised down by 2,000 from 1,724,000 to 1,722,000. The 4-week moving average was 1,721,250, a decrease of 7,500 from the previous week’s revised average. The previous week’s average was revised down by 500 from 1,729,250 to 1,728,750.

OPEC is hoping to reduce output among its 13 members by 1 million barrels per day, and said it would seek an additional 500,000 barrels per day in cuts from longstanding allies including Russia.

European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down eight-tenths of a cent at $2.408 per gallon.
