The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +67 points.

Tuesday the Dow was down -152.06 (-0.52%) at 29,196.04.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +2.30%.

The Dow stock winners Tuesday were led by Intel (INTC) +1.59%, Visa (V) +1.27% and UnitedHealth (UNH) +0.69%.

The Dow stock losers Tuesday were led by Boeing (BA) -3.33%, Chevron (CVX) -1.96% and Goldman Sachs (GS) -1.51%.

Boeing (BA) remains on watch after falling 3.3% Wednesday. The jet maker’s stock fell after it said that it now estimates a mid-2020 return for its grounded 737 Max jet.

IBM (IBM) reported quarterly profit of $4.71 per share. Revenue also came in better than Street forecasts and broke a five-quarter streak of year-over-year declines. IBM also gave better-than-expected full-year 2020 earnings guidance.

Intel (INTC) named Medtronic (MDT) CEO Omar Ishrak as its new independent chairman effective immediately, after Andy Bryant stepped down from that role at the chipmaker earlier this month.

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) reported quarterly profit of $1.88 per share. Revenue was slightly below forecasts. J&J’s bottom line was helped by strength in medical devices and improved profitability in its consumer business.

European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up two-tenths of a cent at $2.544 per gallon.
