DJIA Market Happenings For Friday, December 6, 2019

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +194 points.

Thursday the Dow was up +28.01 (+0.10%) at 27,677.79.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +18.65%.

There were 17 Dow stocks up Thursday.

The Dow stock winners Thursday were led by Nike (NKE) +2.21%, Apple (AAPL) +1.47% and UnitedHealth (UNH) +0.96%.

The Dow stock losers Thursday were led by 3M (MMM) -1.66%, Boeing (BA) -0.91% and Cisco (CSCO) -0.84%.

Nonfarm payrolls surged by 266,000 in November, better than the 187,000 expected by economists. The unemployment rate ticked down to 3.5% from 3.6%, back to the 2019 low and matching the lowest jobless rate since 1969. The end of the GM strike had a big effect, boosting employment in motor vehicles and parts by 41,300, part of an overall 54,000 gain in manufacturing. Average hourly earnings rose by 3.1% from a year ago, slightly above the 3% expected by economists.

The House Judiciary Committee plans to hold a hearing Monday on the evidence gathered in the Trump impeachment inquiry. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday, “The president’s actions have seriously violated the Constitution.” She added, “The president leaves us no choice but to act.” The Judiciary panel will be responsible for drafting the specific impeachment articles.

European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down six-tenths of a cent at $2.589 per gallon.
