DJIA Market Happenings For Thursday, July 11, 2019

Dow stocks at 52 week highs include American Express (AXP), Disney (DIS), McDonald’s (MCD), Microsoft (MSFT), Procter & Gamble (PG), Travelers (TRV), Visa (V) and Walmart (WMT). There are no Dow stock 52 week lows.

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +99 points.

Wednesday the Dow was up +76.71 (+0.29%) at 26,860.20.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +15.14%.

There were 20 Dow stocks up Wednesday.

The Dow stock winners Wednesday were led by Chevron (CVX) +1.69%, Pfizer (PFE) +1.59% and Exxon Mobil (XOM) +1.41%.

The Dow stock losers Wednesday were led by Caterpillar (CAT) -1.23%, Goldman Sachs (GS) -0.87% and Nike (NKE) -0.68%.

Stocks could climb to new record highs on Thursday after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell shored up hopes of an interest rate cut later this month.

Unemployment insurance weekly claims in the week ending July 6, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 209,000, a decrease of 13,000 from the previous week’s revised level. The previous week’s level was revised up by 1,000 from 221,000 to 222,000. The 4-week moving average was 219,250, a decrease of 3,250 from the previous week’s revised average. The previous week’s average was revised up by 250 from 222,250 to 222,500. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2 percent for the week ending June 29, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending June 29 was 1,723,000, an increase of 27,000 from the previous week’s revised level. The previous week’s level was revised up 10,000 from 1,686,000 to 1,696,000. The 4-week moving average was 1,694,750, an increase of 5,750 from the previous week’s revised average. The previous week’s average was revised up by 2,500 from 1,686,500 to 1,689,000.

European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up five-tenths of a cent at $2.755 per gallon.
