The Dow Market Happenings For Friday, March 1, 2019

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +163 points.

Thursday the Dow was down -69.16 (-0.27%) at 25,916.00.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +11.10%.

There were 14 Dow stocks up Thursday.

The Dow stock winners Thursday were led by Boeing (BA) +1.04%, Pfizer (PFE) +0.98% and McDonald’s (MCD) +0.90%.

The Dow stock losers Thursday were led by UnitedHealth (UNH) -3.14%, DowDuPont (DWDP) -2.72% and Caterpillar (CAT) -1.60%.

The US economy expanded at a 2.6% clip in the fourth quarter, bringing growth for the year to 2.9%, just below Trump’s 3% goal. Gross domestic product rose at an annualized rate of 2.6% from October through December, above expectations for 2.2% growth. The economy grew at a pace of 2.9% in 2018, up from 2.2% in 2017. Consumer spending, which accounts for about two-thirds of economic activity, slowed but still expanded by 2.8% in the fourth quarter. Business investment accelerated at a pace of 6.2%. GDP for the third quarter was unrevised at 3.4%.

European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up one cent at $2.423 per gallon.
