Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -19 points.

Thursday the Dow was up +45.30 (+0.20%) at 22,203.48.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +12.35%.

There were 15 Dow stocks up Thursday.

The Dow stock winners Thursday were led by United Technologies (UTX) +2.59% and Pfizer (PFE) +1.91%.

The Dow stock losers Thursday were led by Travelers (TRV) -1.28% and Disney (DIS) -0.93%.

Overall August Retail sales fell 0.2% (est. 0.1% gain) after a 0.3% increase (prev. 0.6% gain) and June sales dropped 0.1% (prev. 0.3% rise). Purchases at auto dealers dropped 1.6% after no change. Retail-control group sales, which are used to calculate GDP and exclude the categories of food services, auto dealers, building materials stores and gasoline stations, decreased 0.2% following a 0.6% advance. 5 of 13 major retail categories showed a decline in August sales.

European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down seven-tenths of a cent at $2.642 per gallon.
