Wal-Mart (WMT +0.73%) rose 2% in premarket trading after it reported Q4 adjusted EPS of $1.30, above consensus of $1.29, as it said Q4 comparable sales were up +1.8%, higher than consensus of up +1.3%.
Verizon Communications (VZ +1.51%) was upgraded to ‘Buy’ from ‘Neutral’ at MoffetNathanson with a price target of $54.
Verizon (VZ) is moving forward with its deal to buy Yahoo, but at a lower price. The two companies have agreed to cut the acquisition price by $350 million following Yahoo’s disclosures in recent months of two massive security breaches.
European stocks are mostly higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.
The national average price of gasoline is down one-tenth of a cent at $2.281 per gallon.
