Thursday the Dow was up +218.19 (+1.17%) at 18,807.88.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +7.94%.

The Dow stock winners Thursday were led by JPMorgan (JPM) +4.64%, Goldman Sachs (GS) +4.28%, Pfizer (PFE) +4.27%, IBM (IBM) +3.49% and United Technologies (UTX)+3.43%. Other Dow winners included UNH, GE, TRV, CAT, HD, MMM, AXP, BA, DD, MRK, XOM, WMT, DIS and CVX.

The Dow stock losers Thursday were led by Procter & Gamble (PG) -3.46%, Coca Cola (KO) -3.15%, Apple (AAPL) -2.79%, Verizon (VZ) -2.44% and Microsoft (MSFT). Other Dow losers included V, NKE, CSCO, INTC, JNJ and MCD.

Offhand I’d say that if you are a buyer, you want to be in today’s Dow stock winners list and look past the losing list.

The Russell 2000 tacked on another +1.58% with the VIX rising +2.50% to close at 14.74.

Walt Disney (DIS +0.34%) is up nearly 2% in premarket trading after CEO Oger said he sees modest growth in 2017 and said online ESPN will be more user-friendly. Disney initially was down 3% in after-hours trading after it reported Q4 revenue of $13.1 billion, below consensus of $13.5 billion.

European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down nine-tenths of a cent at $2.187 per gallon.
