Pfizer Inc. (PFE) has decided not to pursue what would have been among the largest breakups in corporate history, after four years of what the largest U.S. drug maker called an “extensive evaluation.” Instead, Pfizer in a statement said it is “poised to grow” both businesses. The drug maker recently agreed to a $14 billion deal to acquire Medivation Inc. and its cancer treatments.

European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down one-tenth of a cent at $2.207 per gallon.
