The Dow Market Happenings For Thursday, August 18, 2016

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -11 points.

Wednesday the Dow was up +21.92 (+0.12%) at 18,573.94.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +6.59%.

The Dow stock winners Wednesday were led by Pfizer (PFE) +1.01% and 3M (MMM) +0.97%.

The Dow stock losers Wednesday were led by Cisco (CSCO) -1.29% and McDonald’s (MCD) -0.71%.

Cisco Systems (CSCO -1.29%) lost nearly 2% in premarket trading after it said it sees Q1 adjusted ES of 58 cents-60 cents, below consensus of 60 cents, and then said it will cut as many as 5,500 jobs of 7% of its global workforce, citing a “challenging macro environment.”

Wal-Mart (WMT +0.05%) climbed over 3% in premarket trading after it reported Q2 adjusted EPS of $1.07, better than consensus of $1.02, and then raised guidance on fiscal 2017 adjusted EPS to $4.15-$4.35 from a Feb view of $4.00-$4.30.

Jobless claims fell by 4,000 to 262,000 in the week ended Aug. 13, the fewest in a month. The median forecast called for 265,000.

European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up three-tenths of a cent at $2.135 per gallon.
