The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -132 points.

Wednesday, the Dow was down -55.99 (-0.32%) at 17,702.22.

Year-to-date the Dow is down -0.68%.

Dow stock losers Wednesday were led by Nike (NKE) -1.98% and Wal-Mart (WMT) -1.87%.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits were unchanged at a seasonally adjusted 276,000 for the week ended Nov. 7, the Labor Department said on Thursday. The prior week’s claims were unrevised. Claims have now held below the 300,000 threshold for 36 consecutive weeks, the longest stretch in years.

European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down seven-tenths of a cent at $2.200 per gallon.
