Goldman Sachs (GS -0.81%) reported Q3 qdjusted EPS of $2.64, well below consensus of $3.00.

UnitedHealth Group (UNH -1.55%) reported Q3 EPS of $1.65, better consensus of $1.64.

Analysts at Bank of America downgraded Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (WMT) from Buy to Neutral and lowered the price target from $85.00 to $65.00. Wal-Mart shares fell 10.04 percent to close at $60.03 yesterday.

European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down one cent at $2.293 per gallon. Gas was $3.20 per gallon at the local Gig Harbor Costco.
