The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +50 points.

Friday, the Dow was up +183.54 (+1.03%) at 18,024.06.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +1.13%.

Dow stock winners Friday were led by Apple (AAPL) +3.04% and Intel (INTC) +2.67%.

The Dow stock losers Friday were led by Chevron (CVX) -1.82% and Visa (V) -0.42%.

New McDonald’s (MCD) CEO Steve Easterbrook unveiled a turnaround plan for the struggling fast good giant Monday morning. McDonald’s is reorganizing its international operations and plans to franchise more of its restaurants. It wants to have 90% of its locations franchised by 2018, up from 81% currently. McDonald’s hopes to save $300 million annually by the end of 2017 thanks to all the restructuring and plans to be more disciplined about spending. Also, Easterbrook really wants to change the quality of the food and stale brand image so get ready for more new offerings like its recent sirloin burger and artisan grilled chicken sandwich.

European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up five-tenths of a cent at $2.620 per gallon.
