The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -49 points.

Monday, the Dow was down -42.17 (-0.23%) at 18,037.97.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +1.21%.

Dow stock winners Monday were led by Dupont (DD) +4.60% and Apple (AAPL) +1.82%.

The Dow stock losers Monday were led by McDonald’s (MCD) -2.33% and UnitedHealth (UNH) -2.06%.

Merck & Co. (MRK) climbed nearly 2% in European trading after trial results showed its Januvia diabetes drug didn’t increase patients’ heart risk.

Apple (AAPL) rose 1.5% in pre-market trading after it reported Q2 EPS of $2.33, higher than consensus of $2.16, and then boosted it stock buyback program to $140 billion from $90 billion.

The Fed begins a two-day policy meeting today.

European stocks are mixed and Asian markets ended mixed.

The national average price of gasoline is up 3.0 cents over the weekend at $2.536 per gallon.
