The Labor Department reported jobless claims dropped by 20,000 to 268,000 in the week ended March 28, the lowest since the period ended Jan. 24 and second-lowest in at least a yea. The median forecast of economists called for 286,000.

European stocks are mixed and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down six-tenths of a cent at $2.401 per gallon.
