DJIA Market Happenings For Monday, January 5, 2015

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -70 points.

Friday, the Dow closed up +9.92 (+0.06%) at 17,832.99.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +0.1%, Nasdaq -0.2%, S&P 500 -0.0% and Russell 2000 -0.5%.

Last week the Dow was down -1.2%, Nasdaq -1.7%, S&P 500 -1.5% and Russell 2000 -1.4%.

There were 15 Dow stocks up Friday.

Dow stock winners Friday include Visa (V) +1.08% and International Business Machines (IBM) +1.01%.

Dow stock losers Friday include Home Depot (HD) -1.47% and Nike (NKE) -1.16%.

U.S. crude and Brent futures dropped to fresh 5 and 1/2 year lows on Monday with WTI crude below $51 per barrel and Brent crude below $53 per barrel.

Caterpillar (CAT) was downgraded to ‘Underweight’ from ‘Neutral’ at JPMorgan Chase.

The December jobs numbers is scheduled for release this coming Friday.

We also get the release of minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee meeting in mid-December this week.

Friday, Boeing (BA) and Dragon Aviation Leasing celebrated the deliveries of four Next-Generation 737-800s last month. These deliveries represent the first four of 10 additional Next-Generation 737-800s Dragon Aviation Leasing currently has on order. The order value is $933 million at current list price.

Next week Dow stocks kick off earnings season with JPMorgan (JPM), Intel (INTC) and American Express (AXP) reporting.

European stocks are mixed and Asian markets ended mixed.

The national average price of gasoline over the weekend is down 3.2 cents at $2.199 per gallon. Costco in Gig Harbor was also at $2.199 per gallon.
