The Dow Market Happenings For Friday, August 15, 2014

Dow stocks at 52 week highs include Disney (DIS) and Home Depot (HD). There are no Dow stock 52 week lows.

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +41 points.

Thursday, the Dow closed up +61.78 (+0.37%) at 16,713.58.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +0.83%.

Dow stock winners Thursday included Pfizer (PFE) +1.84% and Merck (MRK) +1.61%.

Dow stock losers Thursday included Cisco (CSCO) -2.62% and Intel (INTC) -0.47%.

Yesterday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in June they had 4.5 million available jobs that they were unable to fill. That is the highest number since 2007, and more than twice as high as the figure in October 2009, when the economy was officially beginning to recover but there were no signs of that in the labor market.

European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down three-tenths of a cent at $3.468 per gallon.
