The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at new record highs Monday, in what was the ninth record close for the Dow this year.
Dow stock winners yesterday included Disney (DIS) +1.03% and Unite Technoloies (UTX) +1.00%.
Dow stock losers yesterday included Intel (INTC) -0.92% and McDonald’s (MCD) -0.57%.
Yesterday there were 14 Dow stock winners and 16 losers.
Merck announced yesterday morning that it was going to acquire Idenix Pharmaceuticals (IDIX), a hepatitis C drug producer for $24.50 a share (a deal worth nearly $4 billion). Merck (MRK) shares closed essentially flat while Idenix stock jumped an eye-popping 229%.
McDonald’s (MCD) Monday reported its global comparable-store sales rose 0.9 percent in May. However, comparable-store sales declined one percent in the U.S. Shares lost 0.57 percent yesterday, closing at $101.38.
European stocks were mixed and Asian markets ended mixed.
The national average price of gasoline is down seven-tenth of a cent at $3.646 per gallon.

Ferrellgas Partners, L.P. (FGP) reported third quarter EPS of $0.57 on revenue of $722.12 million, compared to last year’s EPS of $0.56 on revenue of $603.02 million.
Pep Boys- Manny, Moe & Jack (PBY) reported first quarter EPS of $0.03 on revenue of $538.80 million, compared to last year’s EPS of $0.07 on revenue of $536.17 million.

Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance, Inc. (ULTA) is expected to report first quarter EPS of $0.74 on revenue of $699.51 million, compared to last year’s EPS of $0.65 on revenue of $582.71 million.
United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) is expected to report third quarter EPS of $0.73 on revenue of $1.78 billion, compared to last year’s EPS of $0.64 on revenue of $1.57 billion.
