The Dow Market Happenings For Thursday, February 6, 2014

The Market

Premarket, the Dow was indicated to open up +30 points.

Wednesday, the Dow closed down -5.01 (-0.03%) at 15,440.23.

Year-to-date the Dow is down -6.86%.

Disney (DIS) rose nearly 4% in pre-market trading after it reported Q1 EPS ex-items of $1.04, well ahead of consensus of 92 cents.

The market is waiting for Friday’s monthly non-farm payroll data, which should give a good overview of the current state of the U.S. job market. Economists are forecasting 178,000 jobs were created in January, up from only 74,000 jobs the prior month, with an unemployment rate of 6.7%.

European stocks are higher and Asian stocks ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down two-tenths of a cent to $3.272 per gallon.

Intel (INTC) reports earnings on 1/15/14 after the market close.

United Health (UNH) reported earnings of $1.41/share on 1/16/14 before the market open.

General Electric reported earnings of $0.53/share on 1/17/14 before the market open meeting consensus.

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) reported earnings of $1.24/share on 1/21/14 before the market open.

Travelers (TRV) reported earnings of $2.68/share on 1/21/14 before the market open beating consensu.

Ralph Lauren (RL) reported EPS of $2.57, beating the consensus estimate of $2.51. Revenue of $2.02 billion was in-line with the consensus estimate.

Twitter (TWTR) reported fourth quarter EPS of $0.02, beating the consensus estimate of -$0.01. Revenue of $243 million beat the consensus estimate of $216.86 million.
