Market Happenings For Monday, November 25, 2013

The Market

Friday the Dow closed up +54.78 (+0.34%) at 16,064.77

Premarket, the Dow was indicated to open up +66 points.

Last week the Dow was up +0.6%, Nasdaq +0.1%, S&P 500 +0.4% and Russell 2000 +0.8%.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +22.6%, Nasdaq +32.2%, S&P 500 +26.5% and Russell 2000 +32.4%.

Sunday, diplomats made history when Iran and six world powers reached an agreement over the country’s nuclear program. The deal brokered between the U.S., U.K., France, Russia, China and Germany curtails Iran’s ability to develop a nuclear weapon.

Last week, the Dow hit a record high and the S&P 500 closed above 1,800 for the first time.

Trading volume is expected to be low during this holiday-shortened week. U.S. markets will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving and will close at 1 p.m. ET on Friday.

Caterpillar (CAT) was upgraded to ‘Buy’ from ‘Neutral’ at BofA/Merrill.

Former Dow stock Alcoa (AA) was upgraded to ‘Buy’ from ‘Neutral’ at Goldman.

European stocks are higher and Asian stocks ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline over the weekend is up 4.5 cents to $3.280 per gallon.
