Cisco Systems (CSCO) will report earnings after the close.
The Labor Department said wholesale prices showed no change last month compared with June, when they rose 0.8 percent. That was the most in nine months. Energy costs fell 0.2 percent, after June’s 2.9 percent surge. Gasoline prices dropped 0.8 percent, and natural gas costs slid 3.9 percent. Excluding volatile food and energy costs, so-called core prices rose just 0.2 percent. Core wholesale prices are up 1.2 percent over the past 12 months, the smallest one-year increase since November 2010.
Eurostat, the European Union’s statistics office, said the 17 EU countries that use the euro saw their collective economic output increase by 0.3 percent in the April to June period from the previous quarter. That is the first quarterly growth since the eurozone slipped into recession in the last three months of 2011. The ensuing recession of six quarters was the longest since the euro currency was launched in 1999.
European markets were mostly higher and Asian markets ended mixed with the Hang Seng in Hong Kong closed due to weather-related problems.
The national average price of gasoline is down three-tenths of a cent to $3.539 per gallon.

Brocade Communications (BRCD) reported third quarter EPS of $0.26 vs. $0.12 expected on revenue of $536.06 million vs. $518.85 million expected. The company also guided fourth quarter EPS and revenue above the street.
Cree (CREE) reported fourth quarter EPS of $0.38, in line, on revenue of $375.0 million vs. $377.21 million expected. However, the company guided EPS and revenue for the first quarter below expectations.
JDS Uniphase (JDSU) reported fourth quarter EPS of $0.13, in line, on revenue of $421.3 million vs. $430.64 million expected. However, revenue guidance was weak for the first quarter.

Silver Wheaton (SLW) is expected to report second quarter EPS of $0.26 vs. $0.40 a year ago on revenue of $194.17 million vs. $201.41 million a year ago.
JPMorgan Chase and Co. (JPM) is up +23.47% year-to-date.
