DJIA Market Close For Friday, August 02, 2013

Dow stocks at 52 week highs include Cisco Systems (CSCO), Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) and United Technologies (UTX) There are no Dow stock 52 week lows.

The Market

Friday the Dow closed up +30.34 (+0.19%) at 15,658.36.

For the week DJIA was up +0.6%, Nasdaq +2.1%, S&P 500 +1.1% and Russell 2000 +1.2%.

Year-to-date DJIA is up +19.5%, Nasdaq +22.2%, S&P 500 +19.9% and Russell 2000 +24.8%.

Only two Dow stocks, Alcoa (AA) and Caterpillar (CAT) are in negative territory for the year.

The Labor Department reported today that the number of jobs outside the farming sector increased by 162,000 last month, the smallest gain in four months and below analysts’ expectations.

Gains in employment pushed the jobless rate down to 7.4 percent, its lowest level since December 2008.

The Dow Jones industrial average and S&P 500 both rose to new all-time highs.

The Nasdaq was up today and hit another 13-year high.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury note sank to 2.6%, down from 2.74% before the jobs report came out.
