Ben Bernanke Speaks Today: Market Happenings For Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Dow stocks at 52 week highs include 3M (MMM), Boeing (BA), Cisco Systems (CSCO), General Electric (GE) and Hewlett-Packard (HPQ). There are no Dow stock 52 week lows.

The Market

Tuesday the Dow closed up +138.38 (+0.91%) at 15,318.23.

This morning the Dow was indicated to open down -6 points.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +16.90%.

Bernanke is scheduled to speak at 2:30 p.m. ET, following the conclusion of the Fed’s latest two-day monetary policy meeting. The Fed’s bond-buying program has supported equity markets, U.S. and global stock indexes, driving them to recent record highs. Comments from Bernanke suggesting that the program’s end is near would likely lead to significant declines.

General Electric (GE) is at new highs and that generally is a good sign for the market. You know, where GE goes, so goes the market. Right?

European markets are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down four-tenths of a cent to $3.603 per gallon.

Earnings Reports

There are no Dow stocks on the horizon set to report earnings.

Earnings reports from Tuesday include:

Adobe Systems (ADBE) is reported second quarter EPS of $0.36 vs. $0.34 expected on revenue of $1.01 billion, in line. However, guidance for the third quarter was slightly weaker than expected.

FactSet Research Systems (FDS) reported third quarter EPS of $1.15, in line, on revenue of $215.0 million vs. $214.94 million expected.

La-Z-Boy Incorporated (LZB) reported fourth quarter EPS of $0.33 vs. $0.28 expected on revenue of $359.5 million vs. $357.67 million expected.

Other stocks expected to report earnings today include:

Actuant (ATU) is expected to report third quarter EPS of $0.66 vs. $0.60 a year ago.

FedEx (FDX) is expected to report fourth quarter EPS of $1.97 vs. $1.99 a year ago.

Micron Technology (MU) is expected to report third quarter EPS of $0.02 vs. a loss of $0.32 per share a year ago.

Red Hat (RHT) is expected to report first quarter EPS of $0.31 vs. $0.30 a year ago.

International Business Machines (IBM).

International Business Machines (IBM) is up +6.95% year-to-date.
