Market Happenings For Thursday, March 14, 2013

For Dow stocks, BA and IBM are at 52 week highs. There are no Dow stock 52 week lows.

The Market

Wednesday, the Dow closed up at 14,455.28 and made it’s ninth straight day of record highs.

This morning we are up +34, and maybe ten straight days higher.

The Department of Labor released a better-than-expected weekly report on initial jobless claims, with claims falling to 332,000 last week. Economists had expected 350,000 new filings.

The S&P 500 is near a record high this morning too.

European markets are higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is down five-tenths of a cent to $3.701 per gallon.

Earnings Reports

There are no Dow stocks set to announce earnings in the near term.

Affymax (AFFY) is expected to report a fourth quarter loss of $0.61 per share vs. a loss of $0.88 per share a year ago.

Aeropostale (ARO) is expected to report fourth quarter EPS of $0.22 vs. $0.44 a year ago.

Buckle (BKE) is expected to report fourth quarter EPS of $1.25 vs. $1.18 a year ago.

Diana Shipping (DSX) is expected to report fourth quarter EPS of $0.09 vs. $0.25 a year ago.

Molycorp (MCP) is expected to report a fourth quarter loss of $0.31 per share vs. EPS of $0.41 a year ago.

Zumiez (ZUMZ) is expected to report fourth quarter EPS of $0.73 vs. $0.60 a year ago.

0830 ET Weekly initial unemployment claims expected +10,000 to 350,000, previous -7,000 to 340,000. Weekly continuing claims expected -4,000 to 3.090 mln, previous +3,000 to 3.094 mln.

0830 ET Feb PPI expected +0.7% m/m and +1.8% y/y, Jan +0.2% m/m and +1.4% y/y. Feb core PPI expected +0.1% m/m and +1.7% y/y, Jan +0.2% m/m and +1.8% y/y.

0830 ET Q4 current account balance expected -$113.0 bln, Q3 -$107.5 bln.

0830 ET USDA weekly Export Sales.

0900 ET Fed Governor Sarah Bloom Raskin delivers welcoming remarks at Neighborworks 35th Anniversary Symposium.

1100 ET Treasury announces details of 10-year TIPS auction on March 21.

1300 ET Treasury auction of $13 billion in 30-year T-bonds.

1630 ET Federal Reserve announces which banks will be able to pay dividends or buy back shares after the March 7 release of bank stress tests.
