GE reports earnings on 1/18/13 before the market open.

JPM reports earnings on 1/16/13 before the market open.

BAC reports earnings on 1/17/13 before the market open.

INTC reports earnings on 1/17/13 after the market close.

UNH reports earnings 1/17/13 before the market open.

MSFT, IBM, JNJ, T, PG, VZ, MCD, UTX, MMM, DD and TRV all report earnings next week.

Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) shares are up 2% after news it dethroned Lenovo (LNVGF), retaking its position as the top maker of personal computers.

Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke is scheduled to give a speech and take public questions at the University of Michigan (4 p.m. ET).

The national average price of gasoline is down three-tenths of a cent to $3.304 per gallon.
