The Dow closed up +18.89 (+0.14%) at 13,507.32. However, Nasdaq, S&P 500 and Russell 2000 all closed down. The Dow had Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) working for it, up +4.89% for the day.
The Dow stock leaders were HPQ(+4.89%), CSCO (+2.39%), BA (+1.85%), UNH (+1.02%) and CVX (+1.00%).
Dow stock losers were VZ (-1.64%), BAC, IBM, T and CAT.
JPMorgan Chase (JPM) fell in after-hours trading following the news that the Federal Reserve and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency issued two orders to the bank in response to the London Whale related loss last year. The regulators are requiring JPMorgan to take corrective action to strengthen its risk management program and finance and internal audit functions, with emphasis on its chief investment office. JPMorgan was also ordered to improve its oversight of money laundering.
Verizon (VZ) , today’s worst Dow performer, fell 1.64% after UBS downgraded its stock,citing lower profit expectations. UBS cut its rating on Verizon from “buy” to “neutral” and its price target from $48 to $44.
Asian markets ended higher and European markets ended mixed.
