Dow At 7-Week Low: DJIA Market Close For Tuesday, October 23, 2012

The Dow was down -243.36 (-1.82%) at 13,102.53, a 7-week low. It was a god-awful day to say the least. I’m glad I was busy doing things other than watching the tape.

The Dow stock winners list is short, with only INTC and MSFT up on the day.

Dow losers were led by DD, MMM, AA, HPQ, CVX and AXP. DD and MMM reported earnings this morning. See the morning post.

The dollar was up against the British pound, but fell versus the Japanese yen.

Oil for December delivery lost $2.49 to $86.17 a barrel, its lowest level since mid-July.

Gold futures for December delivery slipped $16.90 to $1,709.40 an ounce.

The price on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury was up, pushing the yield down to 1.76% from 1.80% late Monday.
